- Proper spacing between sessions — a full 4 to 8 weeks, so the skin fully recovers before the next pass.
- Diligent cooling — the skin is cooled before, during and after each pass to reduce heat and swelling.

Slower and steadier often means more sessions on darker skin — and that's the point. Patience is how you protect the skin you're not trying to change.
What to Expect From the Process
The fundamentals are the same as any laser removal, just approached more cautiously:
- Sessions: most tattoos need several passes, spaced weeks apart; darker skin is often treated more conservatively, so allow for a few extra.
- Fading: visible fading typically begins after the first one or two sessions.
- Timeline: full removal usually unfolds over several months to a couple of years, because of the healing gaps.
- Sensation: each pass is short — a few minutes — with most of the time spent on cooling.
Aftercare is especially important on dark skin. Keep the area cooled for the first 24 hours — every hour, apply something cold (wrapped in a paper towel) for about ten minutes — then move to a healing cream. Keep it out of direct sun completely while it heals: sun exposure on treated dark skin is the fastest route to pigment changes. Sunscreen on the area afterward is not optional in Bali.
