Portrait Tattoo — Bali
Portrait tattoos that look like them
Photorealistic human and animal portraits in black-and-grey. Done at a level where you can recognise the face. Samadhi Uluwatu, Bali — book a consultation.
Portrait work is unforgiving.
A portrait is the most demanding thing you can ask a realism tattoo artist to do. There’s no abstract shape or organic texture to hide in — either the likeness is there or it isn’t. The eyes have to be right. The light has to read. The proportion has to hold at any viewing distance. Portrait tattooing separates good realism artists from great ones very quickly.
We take on portrait work selectively. We need a high-resolution reference photograph — ideally shot in natural light, with the expression and angle you want — and we do a thorough stencil consultation before anything goes on skin. Animal portraits follow the same process: texture, light, and a reference that captures the animal’s character. If you’ve seen bad portrait tattoos and are hesitant — that hesitation is healthy. Come see what we can do first.
