Removal is usually a bit sharper than getting the tattoo, but it's short. Numbing cream is used only in exceptional cases.
Aftercare matters most in the first 24 hours. Keep the area cooled — every hour, apply something cold (wrapped in a paper towel) for about ten minutes — because insufficient cooling can lead to blistering. After 24 hours you switch to a recommended healing cream, and you keep the area out of pools and direct sun while it settles.
