Every sleeve starts with a conversation — not about style, but about what you carry.
That's how Artem, the founder and lead artist at Samadhi Tattoo & Art Gallery in Uluwatu, opens every consultation for a large project. Not with a mood board, not with a price list — with a question: what's the story?
What Makes a Sleeve Different
A full sleeve is not just a collection of tattoos joined together. Done right, it's a composition — one narrative that flows across the entire arm from shoulder to wrist. Every element in conversation with the next.
Artem works exclusively from custom designs. No flash. No templates. Your sleeve is drawn from scratch, shaped by the intersection of his philosophy and yours.
His references come from sculpture. Ancient forms, photographed and studied for the weight of stone, the movement frozen in marble, the way light travels across a surface. He rebuilds that depth in ink — a complete story mapped across the body.
"Every project is unique — not just in style but in philosophy. I work with sculptures and their photographs, combine them into a complete narrative, and put it on the client's skin. The body is the canvas."
Every large piece he creates is named individually. Like a painting.
The Process: From First Contact to Final Session
1. Consultation
Before anything is drawn, there's a conversation. What themes matter to you? What's the visual language you respond to? What parts of your life, your values, your experiences do you want to carry permanently?
This can happen in person at the studio or via WhatsApp. Artem reviews your references, asks questions, and develops the concept from there.
2. Custom Design
Every design is original — drawn from Artem's own visual sources and rebuilt for your body's specific shape. No two sleeves at Samadhi are the same, in style or in meaning.
3. Session Planning
A full sleeve takes multiple sessions across weeks or months. The timeline depends on:
- Design complexity and density
- The size and shape of your arm
- How quickly your skin heals between sessions
- Whether you want sessions spaced out or compressed into a Bali trip
Most serious collectors from Australia plan 2–3 intensive sessions of 6–8 hours each, with healing time built into the trip.
4. The Sessions
Artem specialises in black-and-grey realism. Shadows built in layers, textures that feel three-dimensional, compositions that read from across the room and hold up under magnification.
Sessions are conducted at Samadhi's studio in Uluwatu — a jungle cave space with ocean views, a cinema room, and a lounge designed to make long days comfortable.
5. Healing and Touch-Up
Proper aftercare in Bali's tropical climate is critical — avoiding ocean water and direct sun during healing. The studio provides detailed guidance for every client.
A touch-up session is included after the piece is complete and fully healed.
How Long Does a Full Sleeve Take?
| Scope | Sessions | |---|---| | Half sleeve (shoulder to elbow) | 2–4 | | Full sleeve (shoulder to wrist) | 4–8 | | Full sleeve with chest connection | 6–12 |
Session length: 3 to 8 hours depending on the stage and your skin's response.
Many clients plan their project across two Bali trips. Samadhi holds your deposit and design between visits.
Why Bali for a Sleeve Project
The math works in your favour. World-class artistry, significantly lower session costs than Australia, UK, or Europe — and recovery time spent surfing, eating well, and relaxing on one of the best coastlines on earth.
Samadhi sits on the Bukit Peninsula, 20 minutes from Uluwatu temple, overlooking the Indian Ocean. It's not a walk-in shop. It's a place built for collectors who want the full experience: art, atmosphere, and something meaningful that will last a lifetime.
Book a Consultation
If you're serious about a sleeve — or any large-scale project — the first step is a conversation.
